In case you haven’t heard, we now offer weekly entertainment featuring themed nights and some of South Florida’s best local talent to go with the lounge’s chic-sexy vibe. This week, we are featuring popular local singer April Raquel!

What made you decide to become a singer?

After attending college, I knew I wanted to do something creative and not just a corporate career. I lived in Los Angeles for a while and booked a few different entertainment jobs, but it wasn’t until I returned to South Florida and began taking vocal lessons that I really started to feel comfortable with pursuing a career in music. The more I performed, learned more about the market & truly began to discover myself, it all started to fall into place.

What is your favorite genre of music and why?

I don’t think I have just one favorite genre. I love music, especially good music with live instruments or creative concepts. Can’t go wrong with a good bass line. As for performing, I am a RaQ, Soul, Funk performer with a little Urban sprinkled in there too.

What was your biggest challenge as a singer/entertainer?

I would say my biggest challenge was learning how to channel all the inspirations I’ve had from childhood & developing myself into an artist that I can believe in & own. Without formal musical training, I relied heavily on these inspirations, dreams & undeniable desire to push me & help me form a very clear, confident identity. Now, with a better understanding of myself, I have a stronger grasp of what I want to say & how I want to say it.

What are you looking forward to the most when you perform at Vibe night on March 31st?

I am most looking forward to exploring another side of my performance ability. I usually perform with a bigger band……. singers, live instrumentation, you know? Really RaQ it out on stage. For Vibe night, I am anticipating entertaining a more intimate crowd, connecting more with the audience & enjoying the journey with them.
