This Friday is National Wine Day, which is celebrated every year on May 25. The holiday is a great way to get friends, family and loved ones together for reflection on some of their best moments of the year so far. One of the great things about wine is that there’s a variety at every price point. The good news is that you don’t have to be a millionaire to enjoy quality wine, and if you are a millionaire, there’s plenty out there just for you!
We spoke with Council Oak’s Sommelier, Juan Horta, for some recommendations on various bottles of wine fit for every occasion.
Date Night With That (Somewhat) Special Someone
The Beaulieu Vineyard Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is perfect for a night out with that someone…you aren’t quite sure is the one, or the one right now. This wine combines a number of flavors including brambly blackberry, cassis, black plum, earthly forest loam, mocha, pipe tobacco, caramel and sweet oak spices; and it’s under $100!
Dinner with the Boss
The Caravan from Napa Valley is a great wine to order to show your boss how much you appreciate working with them and how much you want to be an asset to your department. The bottle is priced a little over a $100.
Night Out On the Town With A Friend
There’s nothing to wine about when we drink with friends! The Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is priced over a $100, and features ingredients like black currant, plum and juicy ripe berries.
Family Over Everything
The best pairing you can have is family and a bottle of wine! If you’re celebrating a special occasion such as a birthday, breaking out a Cade Cabernet Sauvignon is a great way to highlight the evening. The bottle is close to $200, and features aromas of boysenberry jam, blueberry compote, wild lavender, chocolate covered cherries, roasted coffee, rose petals and toasted marshmallow.
The Real Deal Dinner
When you’re celebrating an anniversary, or you’ve been on enough dates to know this person is the real deal, go all in with the Odette Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is priced at over $300 and combines flavors rich in texture and sweet in taste. The popular wine includes sweet black raspberries, black cherries and black currents.
